Police Department
The Avon Police Department was established in 1996. The department's jurisdiction encompasses over 150 lane miles and serves a population of approximately 10000.
 
Jack Miller is the Police Chief. Mr. Miller has been in law enforcement for 32 years beginning in 1974 as a Patrol Officer for the Plainfield Police Department. He was promoted to Detective after 4 years and served in this capacity for 10 years. He served as Plainfield Police Chief for 14 years. He served as Chief Deputy of the Hendricks County Sheriff Department from 2002-2006.

Mr. Miller has a Bachelor's Degree from Southern Illinois University. Mr. Miller is also graduate of the FBI National Academy.
 
Bill Weems is the Assistant Chief of Police and has been with the Avon Police Department since 1997.  Assistant Chief Weems and five other officers were the first patrolmen hired by the Town of Avon.  Assistant Chief Weems served in the U.S. Army in the Military Police Corp in the Republic of Panama and participated in "Operation Just Cause", served as observer and trainer with the Panamanian National Police, and provided protective services for the USARSO Commander and other dignitaries.

After leaving the military, Assistant Chief Weems went to work for the Federal Protective Services in Indianapolis as a contract uniformed officer.  He became the contract manager for the entire state in charge of over 100 uniformed officers.  Assistant Chief Weems has served in many roles such as an ILEA certified instructor in physical tactics, firearms and emergency vehicle operations; field training officer and supervisor; first line supervisor. Assistant Chief Weems has also taught "Survival Spanish" to many officers across the State of Indiana and developed the course curriculum for the class.  Assistant Chief Weems is a graduate of the 229th session of the FBI National Academy.
