The Planning Department is responsible for overseeing a variety of town construction policies and regulations, as well as Zoning Code Enforcement.
The Director of Planning and Building is Al Salzman. Mr. Salzman has been Planning and Building Director since October of 2008. Mr. Salzman graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning and Environmental Design. Mr. Salzman has worked for the City of Westfield as a Senior Planner and Assistant Planner, and for the City of Indianapolis as a Senior Planner.
Mr. Salzman is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), a member of the American Planning Association, and a member of the Indiana Planning Association. Mr. Salzman is has earned a certificate in Economic Development from the Indiana Economic Development Academy at Ball State University, and is a licensed Realtor.
Mr. Salzman is married with two children.
Ryan Granata is the Assistant Planner. He has worked for the Town of Avon since March of 2008. Mr. Granata graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato with a Master's Degree in Urban Planning. Mr. Granata is a member of the American Planning Association as well as the Indiana Planning Association.
